No where near honored enough for his contributions to the arts, Gordon Parks was an amazing talent & visionary. After providing Beautiful (and sometimes Sad) pictorials of The Black Struggle-via LIFE Magazine-for twenty years, Gordon Parks would turn to film Making. Parks would go to become the first Black Filmmaker to Write, Produce & Direct a Major Motion Picture. Today, Parks first film,"The Learning Tree" sits among the first 25 films to be preserved at The United States Library of Congress. Throughout his career, Gordon Parks would go on to direct eight additional films-including: "Shaft," Shaft's Big Score" & "Leadbelly." Truly a unique individual, Parks was a Co-Founder of Essence Magazine & played piano in a Minnesota bordello (he dropped out of high school, after his mom died). Gordon Parks was born November 30th 1972, and died of cancer on March 7th 2006. #SaluteThePioneers
