Whoever those that think True Hip Hop Music & Culture are dead in The South, a New Day is Here.  For the last few months, our friends at TURNTABLE UNIVERSITY, The World Famous DJ VATICAN, & the Super-Talented DJ DEBONAIR have been quietly laying the foundation for change-starting in NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE.  Already having been responsible for treating Nashville to a Summer/Fall DJ residency from "THE GODFATHER OF HIP HOP" DJ GRANDMASTER FLASH, special events featuring from DJ JAM (Tour DJ for DR. DRE, SNOOP & THE DPG), YOUNG MC, and the 2013 DMC Regional Finals, 2014 will be starting off in High Gear with "CLASSIC SUNDAYS."  CLASSIC SUNDAYS will be a weekly event featuring: DJ TONY TOUCH (Sunday March 9th), DJ GRANDWIZARD THEODORE (Sunday March 16th), KOOL DJ RED ALERT (Sunday, March 23rd), & DJ SHORTKUT (Sunday March 30th).  More Legends to come...

Don't Miss it, as Nashville celebrates the musical influences that gave birth to hip-hop.  CLASSIC SUNDAYS is brought to you by the folks that brought you Flashpoint Wednesdays with GrandmasterFlash ["Best DJ Residency of 2013," the 2013 Nashville DMC Regionals, and more...

First up, DJ TONY TOUCH!  THIS SUNDAY MARCH 9TH!!!

Here's all the info you need to stay in tune:

The SOUND CLASH for 6.1.13

PRINCE ROGERS NELSON
The SOUL ECSTASY SOUND CLASH for June 1st will be Prince Rogers Nelson versus James Joe Brown Jr.
Picture
JAMES JOE BROWN JR
Both of these artists are responsible for putting out several of their own albums as well as composing, producing and writing for splinter groups.  James Brown is considered the father of the Funk, while Prince singlehandedly help shape the 80's sound.  One would be hard pressed to find any person globally that listens to music but doesn't know one of these artists' songs.  James has been sampled heavily by various genres of music, and Prince has written numerous songs for self and others that are deemed classics (THE BANGLES, STEPHANIE MILLS, SHEENA EASTON, CHAKA KHAN, TEVIN CAMPBELL, MAVIS STAPLES).

Songs from bands like THE TIME, SHELIA E, THE FAMILY, VANITY 6, 94 EAST, and more will be played from the Prince camp.

James Brown's FAMOUS FLAMES & J.B.'s, along with VICKI ANDERSON, BERNARD PERDIE, MARVA WHITNEY, BOBBY BYRD, LYNN COLLINS, various HIP HOP artists and others will be spun.  Be sure to check out this initial SOUND CLASH going down 06/01/2013 at 9pm.

SOUL ECSTASY: The New Event

5/8/2013

Picture
SOUL ECSTASY is the new nightly event set to debut in downtown Nashville, Tennessee on June 1st at 9pm.  It's created by The llllSOUND llllTHERAPY Movement and has some Significant Changes from the prior show formats.  This is a concerted effort to make the event More Organic and place the shape and 'feel' of the show in the hands of the participant. Be it the artist, admirer of music, or both, the plan is to allow them to have a direct effect on the direction of the show.  The S.T. Team has been 'shaping' shows around specific themes, on a weekly basis, for over four years. Now they've found it necessary and refreshing to put this right into the hands of the show participants. Therefore, suggestions are welcome.
SOME OF THE CHANGES
The 'Sound Clash' is when the Dee Jays spin music centered around genres and artists to see exactly which artist, crew, band, city, state or country had the best music.  For example, there's a Minneapolis & ParliamentFunkadelic Sound Clash on the horizon, along with a Fusion Jazz/Funk and Conscious Hip Hop Sound Clash. The list goes on...  I'm not sure what the first Sound Clash will be, but stay tuned or make suggestions in the comments.
Another change deals with the Open Mic policy and is outlined in more details section below.  One thing that hasn't changed is the affordability of their events, the good music & impressive talent showcased.
