Sureshbahi Patel had just moved to America in January, to help care for his 2 Year Old Grandson. But by February he lay paralyzed in an Alabama hospital, and the center of an international outcry against how American Police Officers treat people of color. Patel had simply went for a morning walk, when Madison Police allegedly got a call about someone "Suspicious" in the area. From there, and per the usual, Officer Eric Parker skipped straight into Excessive Aggression mode toward this 58 Year Old Grandfather and slammed him to the ground causing sever injuries that Mr. Patel will reportedly never completely recover from. According to the testimony of one officer, the takedown move used by Officer Parker was designed for use against "combative" suspects, and that Mr. Patel was not combative at all. Today Sureshbahi Patel requires assistance to walk, has over $200,000 in medical bills, and has a metal plate in his neck. But still a jury couldn't unite around the simple assertion that a human being has the right to certain human dignities when approached by a police officer sworn to "Serve and Protect." Ask yourself America, how often do you see or hear about this happening to the Caucasian populace of this country? Could the officers have not just attempted to question this man, or take time to investigate whether or not he had actually done anything wrong? Is the inference that a dark-skinned man was in the area, or in this case that the 911 Caller claimed he feared something might happen to his wife (age old theme here) enough to justify senseless violence against anyone??? Eric Parker was recommended for termination from the Madison Police Department, and could still go on trial for the misdemeanor assault charge originally levied against him. but if a federal jury wouldn't convict him, then there is little reason to believe a state court will do so. even if fired, he will likely re-appear somewhere else as if this never happened (as seen in so many other cases of police misconduct). #FTP http://whnt.com/2015/09/02/madison-police-officers-trial-begins-with-several-witnesses-including-sureshbhai-patel-the-injured-man/
