Chuck Noll spent 23 Years as Head Coach of The Pittsburgh Steelers (1969-1991). Before that he served as Defensive Coordinator for the legendary San Diego Chargers & Baltimore Colts of the 1960's. Noll was known to have stressed the basic fundamentals of the game, and more than anything else, PREPARATION as the keys to success. He picked very unique & special personalities to tutor, and allowed them the freedom to be who they were. He was a "Player's Coach," as they say-and pushed the "Team First" Mantra of doing whatever it takes to get the job done clearly yielded the desired results. His Steeler Teams of the 70's reigned supreme over many of the greatest players & teams of that era (i.e. Earl Campbell & The Houston Oilers, The Oakland Raiders, The Dallas Cowboys, The Minnesota Vikings, etc.)
After retirement, Noll kept a very low-profile lifestyle. It appears that he had been sick for awhile; but died of natural causes. He was 82 Years Old.
