This act of Terrorism was said to have involved the local branch of the KKK, and was allegedly sparked after a fight between Roger malcom and Barnette Hester. Hester, who was white, was believed to have had an affair with Mr. Malcom's wife Dorothy. Roger Malcom was arrested on the allegation that he had stabbed Hester, and a lynch mob was formed to greet him once he made bail. The other two victims in the car were George Dorsey (A recently returned World War II Veteran) and his wife Mae Murray Dorsey. Their bodies were left in the bushes of a side road, and the number of bullet holes fired into their upper bodies left them almost unrecognizable. In the wake of the incident, a national outcry for justice was sparked-which forced the hand of then-President Harry Truman to push for new Civil Rights Action (at least verbally-Truman himself was a member of the KKK #Fact). The environment of the time was especially conducive to this sort of thing happening, as much was at stake with vicious white resistance in the face of many Black Soldiers returning from fighting in world War II & recent court decisions on Black voting Rights. The fear of losing jobs and political power was often manipulated by those in power to stir up the lesser educated to fight to suppress those who sought to push for rightfully-deserved freedoms (sound familiar?). The FBI eventually joined in on investigating these executions, but no one was ever charged. Thanks to re-enactment ceremonies, and an undying push for justice, there has been a renewed investigation into who may have been involved & is still living. At least one suspect (86 year Old Charlie Peppers of Monroe, Georgia) has been questioned this year. Stay Tuned...
July 25th 1946 marks the date of the last "reported" Mass Lynching in American History. On that day a mob of whites ambushed two couples, dragged them from the vehicle and fired At Least 60 Gunshots into their bodies. One of the women (Dorothy Malcom) was seven months pregnant at the time. Her body was cut open & the unborn child was removed and left on the ground next to her dead body. What would become known as "The Moore's Ford Lynching," occurred in Walton County, Georgia-not far from Moore’s Ford Bridge.
