Peace.
Apparently, there's much debate as to whether Edward Snowden is a hero, terrorist or something in between based on his leak to the press that the NSA is covertly monitoring all internet and cell phone traffic sent/delivered by American citizens. Most political conspiracy theorists know and have known that organizations like COINTELPRO, CIA, FBI and the like have been monitoring Americans' movements and correspondence for over half a century. Therefore, the information he released to the media is not as surprising as most think. There's absolutely no reason to debate what he is, this is a misguided waste of time. The real focus should be on why this so-called democratic nation's inhabitants fear government agencies and have become accustomed to being treated like irresponsible children by the leaders of these agencies. Why do we need constant observation, curtailed and controlled freedoms, covert monitoring? They-these government entities, decide what's legal and illegal and how the laws are interpreted and enforced. I am extremely disappointed that it took Americans this long to even speak about these invasion of privacy issues. Take for instance the masses in France. The government agencies over there fear the citizens uprising and as a result, programs and policies are implemented that directly correlate to the demands of the people. It's quite different in this 'Land of Liberty'. Programs and policies here are rooted in fear/scare tactics and are implemented to control and oppress the masses. Furthermore, even when these programs and policies are ethically wrong, not to mention antidemocratic, contradictory and in some cases illegal, they continue to be implemented, augmented and enforced with little to no resistance by the masses. This is not behavior reflective of a Free democratic nation. It actually mimics fear by the people, and paranoia by those in power. The leaders are paranoid that its citizens will attempt to assert themselves and their rights. Thus, they monitor our movements and consistently suppress our voices. I urge the average Jane and Joe to begin to regain control of their own government and society. Let us peacefully, ethically, morally and legally coerce the government to work for the people's needs, which is their job based on being voted into office....if our votes even count anymore.
Peace.
