For Volume 3 of the RBG column, I wanted to take it to the Westcoast and Female Emcees Groups that blazed the scene out there-JJ Fad & Oaktown 357. JJ Fad kicked it off on Ruthless Records with Eazy E. & Jerry Heller as the executive producers (Dr on the beats)-while Oaktown 357 came out of MC Hammer’s camp. Their sounds bridged precursor EDM beats with 808 Kicks over hard synth riffs and sparse samples.
The ladies in both groups were talented dancers, natural beauties of all shapes-sizes & skin tones, but most importantly, their rhymes were on point. Much like the RBG postulate: women in Hip Hop Culture have made substantial contributions to the art form, and have done it with beauty and grace-the everyday woman in all the everyday environments and situations that she encounters is able to make it through with minimal signs of stress. Being composed, cool, determined and insightful which highlights their inner beauty into the outer world they inhabit.

Other notables from the West Coast in an opposite direction, those that showed less lightheartedness, are Boss, the infamous Gangsta Emcee that never held her tongue for anyone, & Yo-Yo: Cube’s Bonnie to his Clyde-Key Lo Lo-Brenda’s Homegirl on Boyz ‘n’ the Hood & the girl at the party on Menace II Society. Boss was on Def Jam West and Yo-Yo rolled with the Lench Mob.
Both women were unabashedly proud, outspoken and upheld the principles of the Feminist Movement & the self-empowerment of women in a male dominated society and art form (Hip Hop Culture). Not to mention, they spoke out loudly for women of color and the constant plights they faced. RBG West Coast ladies don’t have to be from the West Coast per say to be considered a Left Coast B-Girl, it’s a mentality, a way of life…

Below in the slide show are some ladies I would like to give props to that hold it down on that Left Coast RBG stee. Keep doing it y’all.
