Wax Lyrical is defined by TTEOAN as: music created in an unreserved and highly prolific way that is pressed on vinyl, or that uses a vinyl aesthetic. For a more elaborate description of the term Wax Lyrical, check out prior posts: Vol. I, Vol. I.a, Vol. II & the Special Edition. Thursday is a big day for the TTEOAN blog. Usually 3 to 4 posts go up. Last night I’m updating the WLS, S.O.S. and TOV Sept 1- pages with pics, short summaries of the featured articles and links to them. The phone was buzzing from notifications. But when I’m writing, I’m pretty much just focused on that. So I ignored the 'smartphone'. 'SMARTPHONE ZOMBIES' Once done, I went through my notifications and found that [email protected] had sent me two videos in a text. I peeped em out. One of em had an ill portion of a song that was being looped live. I couldn’t really see the cat doing it, because he was off to the left of the screen, on the edge somewhat. The frontal view was a turntable, computer screen, and a mixing board. I deduced it must’ve been [email protected] based off of the editing style, and having heard a few of his beats (refer to Wax Lyrical 9-14-18). Anyways, Litespeed kept chopping it and re-looping it until it came together where the loop was locked. If you’ve ever produced beats via sampling, it’s always a good feeling that can’t quite be described when you lock in that initial loop, the main theme of the song if you will. Most heads will vibe off 'the initial loop' alone a for a few minutes, unknowingly so as if it’s an innate subconscious reaction. I could feel the vibe in the room was coming to that point. Vibing off the initial loop gives the producer time to listen, and think about how to take it to the 'song' level, what needs to be added, omitted, extended or further chopped. So there’s about 20 seconds of that…A turntable, an ill loop coming together and a computer screen showing it being edited and played. Then I open the next video, thinking it’s gonna be a continuation of the first session…I was pleasantly surprised to hear Sith’s vocal on the dope AF Litespeed track, but just a snippet…Man, that MuthaFunkah Sith best be glad I value my phone and that he’s the homey…I damn near threw my shit…You don’t do that, just play a little bit of something tight, unless you about to mix it in on the decks live... So, I was like dope! Maybe they mixing it down still, I’m about to lay it down anyways cause I gotta rise early in the AM. I get up, do my usual, knock the dust off Self, seen? I’m on my way out the door to see if I can catch anything at the lake, and look at my email on my phone. It’s a message from Sith and an attachment icon…I already know what’s up at that point. I open it and immediately download, then start looking at the title and stuff. It’s a track called: Jets vs Browns Rough. Apparently, it’s a rough edit, but shit, it’s dope as is to me. Peep it and let me know what you think. Any artists that would like to have their songs featured on Wax Lyrical, please submit your email in the comments, or hit me directly at [email protected]. Peace.
