On July 20th, in 1986, The punk rock film based on the life of Sex Pistols bass player Sid Vicious and his relationship with Nancy Spungen debuted in London, England. The film, aptly called Sid & Nancy, shows a lot of the chaos in their relationship, how band members and their manager felt disdain over it, and how Sid & Nancy fell further into drug use and codependency. I fee it’s a precursor to the real-life Kurt & Courtney story that would happen much the same way a decade later. The similarities between the two couples are numerous.

At one point, the number of performers on stage reached 17. His band was one of the few to play at Woodstock in 1969. This concert propelled Santana to the next level of international notoriety and success. The guitar phenom is 71 today!

On July 20th, in 2000, an infamous live venue called The Evergreen Ballroom, located in Lacey, Washington burned down. Opened in 1931, it was a popular performance ballroom from the ‘50’s through the ‘70’s. It was home to genres like Blues, Rock & Roll, Jazz and Country. Some of the artists that performed there include Duke Ellington, Chuck Berry, Marvin Gaye, Little Richard, Ike & Tina Turner, Johnny Cash, Elvis, Etta James, B.B. King, & Fats Domino. Male vocalist Glenn Campbell lived in the kitchen for a stint before he became famous. The music landmark will be missed.
