In yesterday’s: …Today, on Vinyl… post, I headlined with Joe Tex. I tried to make sure I mentioned that he, ‘has some major funk tracks. Don’t sleep on him.’
Wax Lyrical is defined by TTEOAN as: music created in an unreserved and highly prolific way that is pressed on vinyl, or that uses a vinyl aesthetic. For a more elaborate description of the term Wax Lyrical, check out prior posts: Vol. I, Vol. I.a, and Vol. II. It’s that time again, another Thursday. If you’ve been following the posts over the last three weeks, then you may have noticed every Thursday I post a blog for independent artists that have submitted songs. 28 days in, and I still have only one person that’s submitted music, a plethora of it at that, [email protected]. You can check out two of his songs I’ve previously posted at: Wax Lyrical Vol. I.a & Wax Lyrical Vol. II.a. I also have created a few posts called: Looking 4 the Perfect Beat. You can access those here: Vol. 1, Vol. 2 & Vol. 3. It basically breakdowns the samples or interpolations of original songs that artists have used to make their beats that I consider to be dope. You all can agree, or disagree with it. It’s just my opinion. In yesterday’s: …Today, on Vinyl… post, I headlined with Joe Tex. I tried to make sure I mentioned that he, ‘has some major funk tracks. Don’t sleep on him.’ So, when I sat down to make this post, I decided to make it a Special Edition and combined all three of these posts. Thus, for the 1st Month Anniversary of TTEOAN blog page, I am focusing on [email protected] & Joe Tex’s original song that was used to make the beat. [email protected], Inland Empire, California Emcee Furious Styles, is an original participant in the infamous ‘Club Med’ movement in Nashville, Tennessee that would later spawn notoriety and propel DJs Count Bass D who went on to produce and DJ for Prophetix out of Atlanta, Georgia & DJ Egon who went on to Stones Throw Records. Both DJs spun on WRVU at Vanderbilt University, and were the resident DJs for the Emcees that would attend the open mic venue to showcase their lyricism. He’s also, one part of Magnetic Conglomerate and represents for the multi-ethnic group I.T.I.M.S. & two man collective Demented Beat Apostles. The song I selected from him to post is called: Trey Meets Furious Styles. He spits some nice lines on this joint. It’s faster than the other two I posted as well. The name of the song is nostalgic, reminds me of Boyz N the Hood. When it comes on though, all you hear is Tex at first, and then Sith goes in… Peep The sampled original song is Give the Baby Anything That Baby Wants by Joe Tex. It’s a driving funk number that reminds me of James Brown meets Dyke and The Blazers. It has that Texas stripped down funk groove, with a mean bassline and plenty pauses, horns, breaks and a dope bridge. I can’t front, a lot of times the bridge in songs can get lame before they fall back into the main theme or chorus. Not this one. S.O. to Joe Tex, ‘nuff respect! Any artists that would like to have their songs featured on Wax Lyrical, please submit your email in the comments, or hit me directly at [email protected]. Peace
