Wax Lyrical is defined by TTEOAN as: music created in an unreserved and highly prolific way that is pressed on vinyl, or that uses a vinyl aesthetic. For a more elaborate description of the term Wax Lyrical, check out prior posts: Vol. I, Vol. I.a, Vol. II & the Special Edition.
This week’s Wax Lyrical post features two songs from the lllllSOUND lllllTHERAPY Movement. The first is by New Block Order (N.B.O.) co-founder, emcee, producer and promoter-187 Blitz. He’s featured on a few cuts on the Best of lllllSOUND lllllTHERAPY CD Vol. I (2010-Mixed by Dee Jay Vamp). I chose a solo joint he has called Heavenly. It features New Block Order vet and emcee Ha-Himself on the hook, and Dee Jay Vamp on the cuts. Blitz runs it down about how he has mad love for his wife and the numerous reasons why. The New Block Order were one of the first, if not the first Hip Hop centered musical conglomerates that unified a lot of Emcees, Dee Jays, Singers and Poets in the Nashville area. Without the blueprint of N.B.O., their attendance, participation and promotional assistance, lllllSOUND lllllTHERAPY may never have been formed, much less been successful at providing a platform for independent artists. S.O. to 187-Blitz for helping unify the Urban music scene in Nashville.
The second song features Dee Jay Vamp on the decks and one of two Female emcees that are featured on the Best of Vol. I CD-Aphro-Pik. The Chicago native, Zeta Phi Beta sorority member, poet and pro-Black artist put together some dope rhymes, an original concept and nice track for the song I Feel. It uses a sample that Primo chopped (In Memory of), but with a different feel...her song isn’t a redo...it's more of an original take on the sample. I believe she told me it was produced by Kidsmeal. Not 100% sure on that though. She speaks frankly on this joint from the jump: ‘I see society, judge my weight, I ask them, how much of it will they agree to take’… yea, exactly, no pop corny lame fluff stuff, all substance, cerebral. The sister put it down on the poetry-spoken word tip as well. She’s a talented writer that remains humble...I’ve also witnessed her crush many emcees in freestyle ciphers. S.O. to Pik for reppin’ the female Emcee with class, style and lyricism.
