"BLACK HEAT" 1976

"BLACK HEAT" 1976"Black Heat" is a Gritty 1976 Black Exploitation Era Film that follows the efforts of "Kicks Carter," as he fights to save The Black Community from a gang engaging in Sex-Trafficking, Gambling & Weapons Smuggling. Not a lot of familiar faces in this one; but just the presence of the lovely Tanya Boyd (Days Of Our Lives, Black Shampoo, Ilsa-Harem Keeper of the Oil Sheiks, and just about every Black TV Show that aired in the 70's-80's & 90's) is reason alone to sit back and enjoy. "THE BLACK KLANSMAN" 1966Jerry Ellsworth's young daughter is savagely killed, when the local Ku Klux Clan fire-bombs a church in response to new Civil Rights Legislation passed; and Jerry wants Revenge. Possessing the then-coveted ability to pass for White, Jerry uses it to his advantage & infiltrates The Klan to carry out his plan. Released in 1966, "The Black Klansman" aka "I Crossed The Color Line" hits right on target with its examination of many of the challenges & attitudes faced during The Civil Rights Movement Era. You'll see several very familiar faces in this movie, including Max Julien (Goldie from "The Mack"), Whitman Mayo (Grady from "Sanford & Son"), & Veteran Character Actress Frances E. Williams. "ABAR: THE BLACK SUPERMAN"Billed as "The First Black Science Fiction Movie," 1977's "Abar: Black Superman" serves more as a strong social Commentary piece to me. Black Superman begins with two California Housewives discussing the pending arrival of their new neighbors. Hit with shock & horror-as they find out that the "successful doctor with a beautiful family" was a Black Family. "They don't look like servants to me Mabel." "You don't think the agent sold to niggers do you?" still convinced that this could not be, they introduce themselves to the Kincade Family's Maid & chauffeur-only to receive confirm that Dr & Mrs Kincade are indeed Black! LMAO. The ladies Spazz out-along with the community. A small scale riot/Protest breaks out, as the citizens begin to worry about their property values & every sort of stereotype they could imagine. The Kincade Family is approached with offers to buy them out, threatened with building codes, protests on their lawn, and anything that might Get them out! things get quiet when The Black Front Of Unity shows up & plants a Red Black & Green Flag in the yard; but not for long. The harassment continues to escalate into outright violence; but the B.F.U. is never far away. Abar: Black Superman provides a rarely told commentary on the history of integration, as the Kincade Family catches hell from both sides. Black people look at them as Sell-Outs for moving out of the Black Community; and White People look at them as Savages. How far will each side go to defend their position? What kind of Divine Force could intervene & make this right? I guess you will have to watch. My favorite scene involves young Tommie Kincade's Cool Black Cowboy fantasy. This is a surprising good movie-especially for the era in which it was released. Probably the core reason why so few have heard of this movie. comments & Feedback are Encouraged... "SOUTH CENTRAL""South Central" is a lessor known jewel among the multiple "Coming of Age" Hood Movies that partially defined Black Cinema in the Early Nineties. The movie tells the story of Bobby Johnson, who has just been released from yet another prison term, and wants to escape the cycle of drugs & violence that has so far ruled his life-and those around him. Having learned that he had a child on the way, O.G. Bobby Johnson quickly found himself locked up for another ten years. While in prison, Bobby sees the light & seeks to save his son from going down the same path. With multiple obstacles in the way, Bobby will have quite the struggle to succeed. It is a Beautiful Struggle, However. A struggle that bears new examination & thought, in today's world that glorifies Sex, Drugs & Violence. The movies stars Glenn Plummer, was Written & Directed by Stephen Milburn Anderson, and based on a 1987 book written by Donald Bakeer ("Crips"). Legendary filmmaker Oliver Stone served as Executive Producer. Gritty & entertaining. I thought this would be a good choice for Father's Day. As a side note, Yes, this is where the rapper "O.G. Bobby Johnson" got his name from. Enjoy! As we continue to celebrate the Life & Works of Our Dearly Departed Sister maya Angelou, let us also take a moment to embrace the legacy of one of Greats that is Still walking among Us-with a Intellectually gangsta Stride at that! The Glorious & Beautiful, Forever Young, Nikki Giovanni. Poet, Activist, Writer, Teacher & More... Born on June 7, 1943 in Knoxville, Tennessee, Nikki Giovanni has published 30 Books, received more than 20 Honorary Doctorates, and received Too Many other Accolades to Mention (she actually earned her undergraduate Degree from Fisk University-plus Graduate Studies at Penn & Columbia Universities). Most recently, she has served as a Professor of Literature at Virginia Tech University. She has always been known for her outspoken stances on the Black Struggle, The True Legacy of Our Black Heroes (i.e. Malcolm, Muhammad Ali-even, more recently, Tupac Shakur). I had the fortune of meeting, and taking a photo with, this Queen back in 1997. Her Aura, Grace, Beauty & Energy was so striking. I hold that moment close to my heart; and alway will. A few weeks ago, I passed down my copy of "Love Poems" to my 13 Year Old Daughter Elina-and she finished the book in that same afternoon. Mothers & Fathers, let's start teaching our children about Role Models of SUBSTANCE. Beyonce is cool; but Nikki Giovanni is BETTER!!! Join me as I Salute the Queen: Yolande Cornelia "Nikki" Giovanni. “Some people forget that love is tucking you in and kissing you "Good night" no matter how young or old you are. Some people don't remember that love is listening and laughing and asking questions no matter what your age. Few recognize that love is commitment, responsibility. No fun at all unless Love is You and Me” “There is always something to do. There are hungry people to feed, naked people to clothe, sick people to comfort and make well. And while I don't expect you to save the world I do think it's not asking too much for you to love those with whom you sleep, share the happiness of those whom you call friend, engage those among you who are visionary and remove from your life those who offer you depression, despair and disrespect.”
