Before we had "Def Comedy Jam," "Martin," or any of the other major avenues for Black Comedians to regularly showcase their talents to the world, there was Sinbad. And almost only Sinbad. Though Sinbad's persona had a good dose of Coonish "Non-Threatening Negro" in him, his comedy was Real & Very Old School. In the clip below, Sinbad gives us a great dose of humor-speaking on everything from college life, to bad jheri curls to beatings from mama. Somewhat forgotten from comedy history, Sinbad absolutely paved the way for so many others to come a short time later. Salute.

Surely Paul Deen has to rank among the very most ignorant celebrities to come along in recent memory. One would think that losing tens of millions of dollars in endorsement deals would at least make one hire an assistant to filter what comes out of her mouth; but not this chick. Fresh off of scoring a new $75 million dollar investment deal with a Phoenix, Arizona Private Equity Firm, Deen compared her "struggle" to rebuild her image to that of Michael Sam-the first openly gay NFL prospect. Huh? Now no matter what your position is on homosexuality, Paula Deen's comparison should be a head-scratcher to even the most unread anti gay extremist. Let's see, one is ALREADY RICH, and just looking to regain fame & future earnings that she never really lost. The other is a currently employed college student, who has jeopardized his future earnings & privacy-FOREVER-in a struggle to live life freely as he wants to live, Hmmmm. Making matters worse, no one in Deen's camp ever saw fit to mention that using phrases like "that black football player" are not a good idea-especially when coming out of the mouth of someone who has been accused of being racist. But alas, this dummy will continue to get richer, and those of us who would criticize this will be labeled as overly sensitive-if not something worse. It is what it is. "I feel like 'embattled' or 'disgraced' will always follow my name. It's like that black football player who recently came out," "He said, 'I just want to be known as a football player. I don't want to be known as a gay football player.' I know exactly what he's saying."
So Aaron Hernandez has been locked away in Solitary Confinement since late June; but earlier today was apparently allowed to take a walk down one of the hallways at the Bristol County Jail. What's newsworthy about this is that, while taking this leisurely stroll, Hernandez just happened to cross paths with an inmate that had been allegedly harassing him all day. Let's just say that Inmate X won't be picking on Aaron Hernandez again. Lol. According to TMZ, the former New England Patriots All-Pro Tight End laid out quite the can of Whoop Ass on his fellow prisoner. Of course this has yet to be confirmed by authorities at the Bristol County facility. Updates forthcoming, as soon as new info becomes available. Wow.
THE MANHATTANS-SHINING STARAside from just being a beautiful song, that should put a smile on any person's face, The Manhattan's "Shining Star" carries some very fond memories attached to Saturday mornings with my mother. Not enough feel good music out there these days, nor just pure love songs. But I say that there's just no better way to start the day. Enjoy! IN MEMORY OF OUR BROTHER MALCOLM aka EL HAJJ MALIK EL SHABAZZ MAY 19, 1925-FEBRUARY 21, 19642/21/2014 February 21, 1964. Four Men were detained at the scene; but only three names appeared in the media the next day. One of the three confessed to being a trigger-man in the assassination of El Hajj Malik El Shabazz. And he (Thomas Hagan) stated that the other two men, who were convicted, were not involved at all. What we do know know is that we lost a WARRIOR on the stage of Harlem's Audubon Ballroom. What we do know is that both the FBI & CIA were tailing Malcolm EVERYWHERE he went. Be it Asia, Africa, The Middle East, or across the U.S, documents reveal that he was being tapped & tailed. Where were they that fateful day? Where were the NYPD? How was it that somehow Brother Shabazz had no security detail for his speech? Rather than go on & on, we will let those who were there speak to it. Peep this gripping video from the famous series "LIKE IT IS" with Gil Noble. Whatch every second. You may just learn SEVERAL things that you didn't know. Listen, Learn, Grow & Elevate... R.I.P. Brother Malcolm |
