As election night gets closer and closer, prevailing thoughts of race and entitlement rage louder than any bomb ever made. And for anyone that had the blinders on previously, there just was no excuse after Iowa Congressman Steve King uttered out his foolish comments made during coverage of July's GOP Convention. For those that have already forgotten, Rep. King referred to non-whites as a "Sub group" and pressed the idea that no other race had contributed more to civilization than that of the European and/or "where the footprint of Christianity settled the world." Sad to say this is the perspective (I refuse to call it thinking) of far more people in this country than you can imagine. All across the nation there are have been stories of school textbooks under fire for correctly portraying the foundations of civilization as beginning with The Black & Brown People of Earth. And let's not forget those Texas history books that refer to African Slaves as "workers from Africa" brought "to the southern United States to work on agricultural plantations.” This is the cross by-product of centuries of propaganda used to justify the rape, murder, pillage, enslavement, exploitation, and oppression of The Black and Brown-plus the increasing fear and paranoia of repercussions coming from the true majority. But that's another topic for another blog. For now let's just soak up some facts to counter those foolish notions of ignorance that empower fools like Steve King. I could have included all sorts of long form lectures and documentaries, but I highly doubt that people like Representative King have that type of attention span Lol. ter·ror·ism (terəˌrizəm) -the use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims.
For the last 15 or so years, we've seen the word terrorism used and manipulated for political gains with an amazing increase in frequency. Under Bush the label was used to topple regimes that America did not see/no longer sees as an ally. And under Obama/Clinton, the label has been used to assassinate any foes left over from the Reagan/Bush years and nowadays to target exiled political prisoners like Assata Shakur. But today no nation exemplifies the true definitions of terrorism (and tyranny for that matter) like The State Of Israel. The Non-Israeli inhabitants of these long disputed lands live in constant fear as they are subjected to every sort of human rights abuse imaginable. But yet few dare to speak out.
Just last week, settlers of a long disputed village in the deserts of Israel woke up to bulldozers. The entire village of Araqib was demolished, for what its now former occupants say to be the "hundredth time." The people of Araqib Village have laid claim to this land since the days of The Ottoman Empire; but the land was "appropriated" in 1953, and the people were evicted from the land. Since 2010, the longtime owners of the land returned to reclaim their their past; and have been denied vital services such as water, electricity, and sewage systems. There are no schools. There is no health care. The residents are not allowed to vote. And this most recent assault on their village came during the Holy Month Of Ramadan. In similar fashion, Israeli authorities cut off and/or limited access to clean drinking water for Palestinians living in the occupied West Bank Area. According to The Palestinian Hydrology Group, some areas have been without water for more than 40 days. Even worse, Israel has spent the entire Holy Month Of Ramadan raiding Palestinian villages-arresting more than 300 Palestinians inside of 20 days, and untold numbers since then. The arrests were allegedly targeting activists, after a shooting that injured four Israelis; but more than 30 children were detained in the process? Did the kids shoot anyone? Did 330 people shoot these four people? But yet the same tired excuse of having the right to protect Israeli interests continues to make the wholesale oppression of the people whose land they stole away inexplicably okay. According to Al Jazeera, there are currently more than 400 children languishing inside Israeli prisons-and an estimated 500-700 are prosecuted in military courts each year. For the past few years, Israel Military and Police forces have enforced edicts to take back lands provisioned to The Palestinians under prior agreed upon peace accords-and then locking up all who protest their actions. Aren't these the types of human rights violations American and European Nations identify as reasons to invade and/or destabilize other nations? But yet Israel quietly gets a 60+ years pass. I guess democracy is only meant for some; and not for others.
Earlier this week former prosecutor Charles Sebesta found himself barred from his profession, after The Texas Board of Disciplinary Appeals upheld a June 2015 decision that he had used false testimony & withheld evidence to gain a murder conviction on an innocent man. Anthony Graves spent 18 years of his life in prison (12 of those years on death row) for the murder of six people back in 1992. Graves had been accused of setting a fire that killed six people back in 1992. We now know that Charles Sebesta manipulated evidence and suppressed testimony, that would have exonerated Graves, to secure the conviction. The guilty verdict against Graves was reversed in 2006; but he would remain in jail until 2010. The case became the subject of a "48 Hours" expose, which would win an Emmy award. Anthony Graves received $1.4 Million in compensation; but will never get those 18 years of his life back. Interestingly, Sebesta left his position as prosecutor back in 2000. It is unclear specifically what he has been doing since then...
For those not paying attention, exonerations of wrongly convicted citizens reached a record high in 2014-a stat that was then eclipsed with even more in 2015.
In January, and again in April, of every year the world pauses to honor the memory of the one & only Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. But what is his true legacy? If you let corporate media, politicians, or the school system tell his story, you get just a really watered-down version that really loses relevancy with each passing year. If you rely on those vessels for information, as far too many do, then Dr. King Led a few marches, Had "a Dream," Went To "The Mountaintop," and then was snuffed out by some Crazy Lone White Assassin's Bullet. How many even know that in 1999 The U.S. Federal government was found Guilty as a Co-Conspirator in the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King? Yes. So while the narrative of James Earl Ray continues to go on, the FACT is that it has been CONFIRMED that members of U.S. Military Intelligence and Sniper Groups were in the immediate vicinity of Dr. King's Motel-and all police protection was REMOVED within an hour of his execution (check the links below for more information).
Anyway, back to the point...
Starting around 1967, or some evidence would suggest even 1965, Dr. King's message and overall demeanor began to change/gain a stronger sense of urgency. Dr. King's message began to shift away from a loving message of integration-to a stance against Institutionalized Racism. Dr. King began to call out the government for the hypocrisy of spending hundreds of millions of dollars toward wars to control other sovereign nations, and at the same time, loudly proclaiming the intention to fight harder for God-Given Rights. Dr. King railed against Racism practiced via Housing Discrimination, Employment discrimination, discrimination in Federal Funding and Grants, Violence against Non-Whites, and the overall lack of morality in the actions of Government & society.
“We have waited for more than three hundred and forty years for our constitutional and God-given rights. The nations of Asia and Africa are moving with jet-like speed toward gaining political independence, but we still creep at horse and buggy pace toward gaining a cup of coffee at a lunch counter.” Missing from the pages of history is the reality that many of his allies turned on him during those latter days of his life. He was no longer welcome in Lyndon B. Johnson's White House. Many spoke out against him. His change in focus, and willingness to criticize The Federal Government, put him on an island by himself. And much like Malcolm, it got him killed. Do note that on April 4th 1967 (EXACTLY ONE YEAR PRIOR TO HIS ASSASSINATION) Dr. King called the U.S. government "the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today." Most of those that walked with him prior to that time began to go into business for themselves, and Dr. King knew it. Once he was gone, they all got rich-and today they continue to bask in his light, while never doing anything more than SYMBOLIC acts that remain in the vein of a strategy that he had moved away from.
“We have waited for more than three hundred and forty years for our constitutional and God-given rights. The nations of Asia and Africa are moving with jet-like speed toward gaining political independence, but we still creep at horse and buggy pace toward gaining a cup of coffee at a lunch counter.”
In an encounter just days before the execution of Dr. King, Harry Belafonte Jr. described the demeanor of Brother mLK:
"I remember the last time we were together, at my home, shortly before he was murdered. He seemed quite agitated and preoccupied, and I asked him what the problem was. "I've come upon something that disturbs me deeply," he said. "We have fought hard and long for integration, as I believe we should have, and I know that we will win. But I've come to believe we're integrating into a burning house." That statement took me aback. It was the last thing I would have expected to hear, considering the nature of our struggle, and I asked him what he meant. "I'm afraid that America may be losing what moral vision she may have had," he answered. "And I'm afraid that even as we integrate, we are walking into a place that does not understand that this nation needs to be deeply concerned with the plight of the poor and disenfranchised. Until we commit ourselves to ensuring that the underclass is given justice and opportunity, we will continue to perpetuate the anger and violence that tears at the soul of this nation."
During the early morning hours of June 17th 1972 a security guard Frank Wills was walking the premises of The Watergate Building in Washington D.C., when he discovered tape covering a door latch, which prevented it from closing all the way. The security guard made note of his find, removed the tape, and went on his way. But upon returning to the area, Wills observed that the door was again taped open & called the police. That door was an entrance to the offices of The Democratic National Committee, what Wills had discovered was five men, all in some way attached to Then-President Richard Nixon, there to steal documents & set up wiretaps on the office phones. The five men were arrested, and over the next 22 months, it was confirmed that these men were working with the campaign to re-elect Nixon. Though he steadfastly denied any involvement in the burglaries, Nixon was implicated in having providing so-called "hush money" to the burglars, obstructing the FBI's investigation & and destroying evidence. He was NEVER PROSECUTED, but facing impeachment, Nixon ultimately resigned from office in August of 1974.
What happened to Frank Wills? While he did enjoy some level of fame & fortune briefly, he ultimately died broke & destitute. The security company that he had been working for refused to give him a raise, and likely blacklisted, he never found stable employment again. Just like The Iran-Contra Scandal, that would come a decade later, most of those involved in the criminal side of this conspiracy found fame & money. The two reporters that covered Frank Wills story, Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, are important figures right up to this day. But like in so many other cases, in which the whistle-blower ends up being the one punished, Frank Wills was made to suffer for doing the right thing. Sadly Frank Wills died penniless, of a brain tumor, on September 27th 2000. The Democratic National Committee honored him with a superficial award in 1974, but few looked out for him to make sure that the obvious pending backlash would not be allowed to destroy him.
BLOCKING FREEDOM, INSTEAD OF PROTECTING IT: U.S. APPEALS COURT BLOCKS THE RELEASE OF ANGOLA 3 INMATE
Albert Woodfox has spent the last 43 years of his life in prison. Most of that time has been served in solitary confinement, without a window nor access to reading materials, at The Angola Louisiana State Penitentiary. Mr. woodfox's health is deteriorating rapidly-and he is currently suffering from Renal Failure, Hepatitis c, and Heart Disease. On Monday June 7th U.S. District Judge James Brady issued and order for his release, overturning two prior convictions for the death of prison guard Brent Miller in 1972. Woodfox had been convicted, along with two other inmates, and the three have remained in solitary confinement for most of that time ever since. The convictions were overturned based on Jury Misconduct & other Racial Biases involving the jury. Infamously called "The Angola 3," their isolation was officially justified on the grounds that their membership in The Black Panther Party & push for prison reforms could cause unrest among the other inmates.
In ordering Albert Woodfox's release, Judge Brady also decreed that he could not be tried a third time. But on Friday June 12th The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ordered that Woodfox remain in prison-pending another hearing scheduled for late august. This follows a long pattern of abusing America's Political Prisoners that goes back at least to the 1960's if not before. It is a regular thing to hear on the news about OTHER countries imprisoning & even killing those who dare speak out against the government; but remain in denial about what happens right here in the so-called "Land of the Free!" Mumia Abu Jamal is dying in a Pennsylvania Prison, with little access to adequate healthcare and very limited visitation from the outside world. Assata Shakur remains in hiding in Cuba, with a $2 Million Dollar Bounty on her head, though scientific evidence proves she could never committed the crime she was convicted of. As for The Angola 3, Herman Wallace died in October 2013-just three days after being released from Angola & granted a new trial. Robert King was released in 2001. Educate yourself, and then educate others. The government is only able to do these things because they are winning the messaging war. We must get the word out, so that true justice can be achieved.
On the heels of news that now-former South Carolina Police Officer Michael Slager would be charged for the MURDER of 50 Year Old Coast Guard Veteran (and Father of Four) Walter Scott, reports came out in regard to a similar MURDER in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The similarities?
But in the MURDER of 44 Year Old Eric Harris there is the key distinction that he was not killed by a Cop. How does such a thing happen is a question that will certainly have implications far beyond this case, but more on that later...
So for those that do not know, Eric Harris was killed while being arrested for allegedly selling a firearm to an undercover Task Force Agent. Upon realizing that he had been caught up in a sting operation, Mr. Harris took off running. Agents chased him, and eventually tackled him to the ground. Moments later he was dead at the hands of a 73 Year Old CEO of an Insurance company, who had enlisted as a VOLUNTEER/RESERVE SHERIFF'S DEPUTY!!! Robert bates used his personal weapon, and fired it into Harris's Back, claiming that he THOUGHT HE WAS USING HIS TASER!!! Pictures & video refutes Bate's police report claims that Harris was struggling with the officers (look closely at his hands & shoulders). CEO Bates would also be quoted as explaining that he thought Eric Harris had a gun, because of the manner in which he was running. Smh.
"I noticed that Harris was running in an unusual way because as he ran he repeatedly touched his right hand to his waistband," he wrote. "Based on my past experience, primarily with the task force, and my past training, I believed that Harris might be carrying a gun."
So the question remains, just how did Robert Bates find himself involved in a Task Force Operation? All signs point to MONEY. Bates is on record as having donated cars, video equipment, and other items to the Tulsa Sheriff's Department over the years. He also donated at least $2,500 toward Sheriff Stanley Glanz's Re-Election Campaign. According to reports, the program that allowed for Bates to serve as a VOLUNTEER/RESERVE SHERIFF'S DEPUTY normally places these recruits in roles more related to assisting with helping those affected by fires, tornadoes, and other more public servant capacities. News reports reveal that there are hundreds of similar programs across the country, and many of those will undoubtedly face scrutiny to make sure that there are no more Rich George Zimmerman's (Lol) paying for the opportunity to play cop. Robert bates has been charged with
Second-Degree Manslaughter "Involving Culpable Negligence" for the April 2nd incident. Be sure to check the video, and listen out for the part where one of the officers yells out "FUCK YOUR BREATH!” Hopefully that officer will be put on blast, and receive a proper punishment for his part in this matter. Stay tuned...
In early 1968 The City of Memphis, Tennessee saw a chain of events that would arguably be one of the last massive acts of Civil disobedience & Protest, and ultimately would end with the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. After suffering through years of working in inhumane & hostile working conditions, Memphis Sanitation workers had become fed up. Workers often complained of deplorable conditions that included a lack of protection from the weather, leaking trash, having to go home with maggots in their clothing, poor pay & the city's refusal to repair or replace poorly functioning trucks. Complaints or requests for improved conditions could get you fired. The tipping point came on February 1st 1968 when Echol Cole and Robert Walker were crushed to death while seeking shelter from heavy rain inside the back of a malfunctioning garbage truck. After the city failed to effectively address the roots causes for the tragedy, an estimated 1,300 City Workers would then go on strike. The movement quickly picked up the support of Labor Unions & Student Groups from all over the country. Dr. King, The NAACP & SCLC would ramp up their efforts to support the movement starting in march of that year. A huge protest march was scheduled for March 28th 1968, but would ultimately things go horribly wrong. It is said that roughly 22,000 students skipped school to participate & have their voice heard; but with the late arrival of Dr. King & his entourage, the crowd situation at some point/for some reason escalated into a riot. As a result, the event was cancelled & Dr. King was hurried away to safety. One teenager was killed by Memphis Police, tear gas was shot into the church intended to be used as a safe haven for the would-be protesters, 4,000 National Guard Troops were called in, and martial Law was declared. Acknowledging the reality that large numbers of youth no longer believed in Non-Violent Civil Disobedience, Dr. King considered not returning to Memphis. Ultimately however, Dr. King would return a week later to finish what he had started. On April 4th 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King would be assassinated & more rioting would follow. Next week will speak to the involvement of the U.S. Government in his assassination.
Here's the latest from Nationally Certified School Psychologist Dr. Umar Johnson. Here we find Dr. Umar breaking down the origins of Special Education, the little known fact that schools get paid extra for Special Ed Students, the Deliberate Mis-education & Exploitation of Black Families, and many of the self-defeating patterns that Black Parents commit to that further cripple the minds of our children. the need for more discipline in how we raise Our Children is also a point of emphasis, as face not only the ills of today's society; but also the dangers associated with the drugs that are being prescribed to Our Children (did you know that Ritalin is a schedule 2 drug, just as addictive as Cocaine & Opium, per The DEA)? Know who is teaching your children. Know their qualifications. Let's take a more proactive approach to what we are exposing our children to & work to fill in the Gaps.
Currently Dr. Umar Johnson is also raising funds to acquire the now closed HBCU St. Paul's college, with the intention of opening The Frederick Douglas Marcus Garvey International Leadership Academy in Lawrenceville, Virginia. Click the link below for more info.
