On July 24th, in 1953, The ‘Diaper Man’ AKA Starchild on guitar and vocals for the P-FUNK sound, Garry Shider was born in Plainfield, New Jersey. He was discovered by George Clinton in Toronto, Canada. Shider was a member of the funk band U.S. (United Soul). Clinton saw his potential and helped produce a couple of songs for Shider and U.S. using some of the Funkadelic members. Shider joined the Parliament-Funkadelic movement in 1972 and later acted as musical director of the P-Funk All-Stars. He died on June 16, in 2010 in Maryland from lung & brain cancer.

On July 24th, in 1967, The Beatles and their manager Brian Epstein signed a petition printed in The Times newspaper supporting the legalization of marijuana. On the same day, they meet Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the Transcendental Meditation Guru (TM) giving a lecture in the London Hilton Hotel. TM uses the silent repetition of a word or sound to produce a state of mind in order to help a person reduce stress, calm the mind, and energize the body/mind. The Beatles traveled with The Maharishi while he was in England giving other lectures in the North Wales area.

| On July 24th, in 1970, former In Living Colour Fly Girl & ‘significant other’ of Puff Daddy (P Diddy, Diddy), Jennifer Lopez was born in the borough of the Bronx, NYC, NY. She appeared as a dancer in many Golden Era Hip Hop videos. |
She also worked with Rozie Perez as her choreographer while dancing as a Fly Girl on In Living Colour. She Later went on to become a singer, actress and reality show host.

Most known for the Grammy winning song Rebirth of Slick, released in 1992 just ahead of their debut LP Reachin’ (a New Refutation of Time and Space). They would release 2 More full length LPs: Blow Out Comb in 1994 and Digable Planets Live in 2017. Mecca released a solo LP in 2006 (Dogg Starr). She brought an original style and sound to the culture, speaking on valid and relevant topics. She remains true to the authenticity of Hip Hop music and culture to this day!
