On August 6th, in 1928, Pop Art innovator and icon-Andy Warhol (Andy Warhola) was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Aside from making movies, creating the pop art movement and discovering new talents in the entertainment and visual arts world (Jean-Michel Basquiat), Warhol also produced and managed the Velvet Underground. He also designed album covers for the group and the Rolling Stones’ Sticky Fingers LP cover. He died in 1987 from complications associated with his gall bladder. He was 58 years old when he passed away.

On August 6th, in 2004, the man that called the Murphy Brothers: ‘DARKNESS’-Mr. Rick James died at his home in Los Angeles, California. He put the Buffalo, New York music scene on the map, and honed his chops via working at Motown as a producer and songwriter with Gordy and Smokey Robinson. He had a heart attack while he was sleeping. He was 56 years old. 'Fire up this funk cuz it's time to smoke...'

On August 6th, in 2010, funk guitarist-Phelps ‘Catfish’ Collins, Bootsy Collins’ older brother, died in Cincinnati, Ohio from cancer. Bootsy is the originator of his nickname, because he said Phelps looked like a fish. Catfish is most noted for his work with the Pacemakers during the early 60s, then the J.B.’s (James Brown’s backing band) from 1968-1971, and later with the Parliament Funkadelic movement from '71 up to his death. He was born and raised in Cincinnati. There’s an annual concert just across the Ohio River in Covington, Kentucky called Catfish Nation Celebration that pays tribute to the funky guitarist.
