Often overshadowed by her older sister Phylicia, Debbie Allen has been a force in Hollywood for decades. Debbie is best known for her roles as Lydia Grant on "Fame," Jackie Warren on "In The House," and as the producer/Director of "A Different World;" but actually has more than 49 acting credits & 39 directorial credits in what has been a beautiful career. She has choreographed five Academy Award shows, has Honorary Doctorates from both Howard University & The North Carolina School of the Arts, can be seen as Dr. Catherine Avery on "Grey's Anatomy," and today works to cultivate future legends at her Debbie Allen Dance Institute in Culver City, California. Personally she was one of my first crushes, as a child when I saw her play the young troubled bride-to-be Diana Buchanan on "Good Times." Best known for her years playing the role of Clair Huxtable on "The Cosby Show," Phylicia Rashad personified everything a child could have wanted in a Mother-and everything a man would want in a Wife. Beautiful, Graceful, classy & No Non-Sense! Did I mention beautiful? Phylicia Rashad has a degree from the prestigious Howard University, was the first Black Woman to win a Best Actress Tony Award (A Raisin In The Sun,) and has more film, television & stage play credits then we could even try to list here. She even put out a disco album in 1978! Pow!!! And today she sits firmly on the Throne of Elders, and a model to future generations that we must embrace even more as we go forward... Donny Hathaway - "Giving Up"There's NOTHING in this world more valuable than love. If you have achieved that Divine Understanding with someone, Feed It & Cultivate it with all that you have in you. There's no greater pain in this life, than that feeling that comes with wondering "What If..." There may be many struggles & let-downs that may come in the journey toward love; but never-ever take it for granted. It might just not be there when you come back looking for it. P.E.A.C.E. BOBBY WOMACK - "THAT'S THE WAY I FEEL ABOUT CHA'" & "CLOSE TO YOU"Life Lessons from The Legendary Bobby Womack. Rest In Peace & Power! Playing the roles of a No-Nonsense GODDESS, at a time when most Black Women were portrayed as Weak-Minded & Subservient, Pam Grier has spent the past 40+ Years as a living embodiment of Grace, Beauty, Style & Fire! In honor of her 65th Birthday, we decided to devote a pictorial tribute to one of the "Women We Love." Enjoy! |
