Most famous (or even infamous) for her efforts to prosecute the cops alleged to be responsible in the death of Freddie Gray, Mosby was viciously attacked and there were attempts to remove he from her post as the city’s top attorney. Mosby weathered the storm and is now seeking to have an estimated 790 convictions overturned in relation to the activities of Baltimore’s now disbanded Gun Trace Task Force. The 790 cases are all convictions traced to the aforementioned eight former task force members, and 17 other officers implicated during the course of the trial and investigation of the now convicted officers. One of those 17 officers was former homicide Detective Sean Suiter, who was murdered the day before he was to testify before a grand jury in relation to the investigation of him and his co-conspirators. As for the rest, 10 have resigned from the police department, one was fired, and one has retired. Still others remain under investigation. Those convicted received sentences ranging from 7 to 25 years.
Mosby’s attempts have previously received pushback and will certainly there will be more. The city is already facing a number of civil suits relating to corruption, and this will absolutely open the floodgates for more. The answer to me is taxing the pockets of the overseers, and the police unions that protect them.
